Spending time at the Spa Nalai in the Park Hyatt Hotel is the perfect way to escape the noise and pressures of New York City living. Nalai means “serenity” in Native American Algonquian, and this is exactly what you’ll find in this nurturing, healing spa.
Spa Nalai is on the 25th floor, and all the treatment suites look out high over Central Park. The gym also has great Park and Midtown views.
But although you look out over the city, you couldn’t feel further away. The spa is luxurious, calm and relaxing, which was just what I needed. This was the first time I had been to this spa, but I’m definitely coming back.
Spa Nalai more than lives up to its advertising promise of using advanced spa technologies with ancient wellness practices. There is a good selection of treatments to choose from, although I did find the specific treatment information in the brochure a little abstract.
The facilities are co-ed, and are spacious and accommodating. There is a saltwater indoor lap pool and a spa terrace where you can order food from the hotel’s seasonal spa menu.
There are only six treatment suites, which means it can be difficult to book an appointment on the day and time you want, as they fill up pretty fast.
I was at the spa on my own, but there are also great couples’ facilities, like a double shower and side-by-side massage beds.
Other facilities include a steam room, private steam showers and a gym.
Massage and Body Treatment
I chose Spa Nalai’s Signature Treatment, and it was one of the fanciest treatments I have ever had done. The treatment included a scrub, wrap and a warm stone massage.
The treatment table was covered with luxurious linen draped over a warmed bed of quartz and sand. My therapist used both her hands to massage me, using essential oils and energy healing quartz crystals covered in a poultice. These felt great as she moved the poultice along my skin.
As I lay on the table, I could feel the sand moving beneath me. This was really relaxing. And because the sand gave a little, my therapist was able to go deeper into my muscles, giving me a very healing and balancing massage.
Overall, my therapist was very professional, and explained the unique treatment as we went along, to make me feel comfortable.
The service I received from my therapist was really good. I had the suite to myself, so when it was time to get dressed, she turned on the shower for me, making sure it was warm before leaving the room to let me get ready. She also recommended a tea she thought I would like, as the tea menu was extensive. When I came out of the shower, it was waiting for me near my balcony, so I could drink it while enjoying the view. All the teas are custom-blended for the spa by T Salon.
The spa staff was also excellent, stopping to greet me whenever they saw me. I arrived early so that I could enjoy the extensive tour of the spa they offer, and this was definitely worth doing.
I was able to book online, but because the brochure is not very specific, I had to follow up with a phone call so that I could ask just what it was that I had booked! The staff was friendly and helpful, but the process could be streamlined.
This is the nicest spa I have ever been to. It offers state of the art facilities in a calm and relaxing environment. My therapist and the spa staff were excellent.
